Do you really need to see a GP or could someone else help you?
Many patient issues do not need to be seen by a GP and can often be solved quickly and simply by other appropriate health professionals, such as our practice nurses, a pharmacist, or by seeking self-help advice from NHS Choices. We have a section on this website for minor illness which offers lots of help and advice. Admin queries such as chasing a hospital appointment can be dealt with by our secretarial or admin staff.
Please note that the wait for a routine appointment with a GP is currently two to three weeks. This is due to a very high demand for appointments. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Why are we asking you the reason for your appointment?
As you will be aware, general practice resources are limited, and in particular, the waiting time for appointments may be longer than we would like. In order to make the most efficient use of our appointments, the doctors have requested our receptionists to ask patients to provide some brief information about the reason for their appointment. This is to ensure patients are directed to the service which can help them best, and because it is very helpful for the GPs and nurses to know in advance the purpose of a telephone or face to face consultation. Thank you for your co-operation with this.
Minor Eye Conditions Service
This is a new NHS service. If you have a red, sore, uncomfortable eye, or sudden disturbance of your vision, you no longer need to see your GP but should contact Specsavers (01865 773344) or Ideal Eyes (01865 749877) both in Cowley Centre, and they will be able to help you. The initial appointment is paid for by the NHS.
Support for people with Dementia and their carers
