Long Term Locum
GP Registrar - From 1/8/18
The practice is accredited as a Training Practice for GP Registrars, who are doctors training to become General Practitioners.
GP registrars are fully qualified doctors and are supervised by other GPs in the practice. You may be offered an appointment with them, but you are not obliged to see them if you choose not to. You may find that the GP Registrar sometimes sits in with other doctors or nurses during their consultations.
Occasionally, consultations may be video recorded for educational purposes. This will only take place if you consent to it.

Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses.
They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.
Clinical pharmacists work as part of the general practice team to improve value and outcomes from medicines and consult with and treat patients directly. This includes providing extra help to manage long-term conditions, advice for those on multiple medicines and better access to health checks. The role is pivotal to improving the quality of care and ensuring patient safety.
Our own team of community midwives hold a clinic at the surgery every Tuesday and Thursday morning.

The district nurses provide care, advice and support for people at home who are unable to attend the surgery. Most of their work is with the elderly, chronically sick and terminally ill. They also deal with minor illnesses and injuries.

The health visitors covering Hollow Way patients are now based at Temple Cowley Health Centre.
The health visitors provide advice on family health and child care issues. If you have any worries about minor illness in your children then you may wish to contact them first. The health visitors work in partnership with the doctors. There are a number of services available locally for parents and children that offer practical support and advice.
If you would like to discuss specific health issues such as development, behaviour and parenting support etc., please phone the health visitors for an appointment.
Appointments with the health visitors are available in the health centre or a home visit by arrangement.
There is no longer a child health clinic held at Hollow Way Medical Centre, but other locality clinics are available.
For child immunisations, a clinic is available at Hollow Way Medical Centre on Tuesday afternoons 14:00 – 15:30 with the practice nurse. Please make an appointment through Reception.
For details of locality clinics please contact the Health Visitors on 01865 903116.
